Effective Altruism NYC is looking for a full-time Community Co-Director. This is a chance to lead the growth of one of the largest EA chapters worldwide, immerse yourself in a passionate and generous local community, and play a role in each member's unique path to making a difference in the world.
The Community Co-Director will grow and support EA NYC, fostering a community of effective altruists and helping them in their journey to find their best options for doing good. As a central driver of all the EA community in New York, the role will necessarily shape the direction of the group, deciding on group priorities, and collaborating to determine the medium to long-term strategy of the group.
Anyone in this role would work closely with Arushi Gupta, one of the current Community Co-Directors.

The work will be largely self-directed and the Community Co-Director will have significant scope to determine their own projects and priorities.
The Community Co-Director will need to be able to attend and organize in-person events and meetings in NYC on most days of the week.
The position is set up as a one-year grant. It is funded by the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA), through its Community Building Grants (CBG) program. The Community Co-Director will be accountable to the EA NYC board and CEA and will collaborate closely with the EA NYC board. As a CBG recipient, the Community Co-Director will also be part of a global network of professional community organizers who frequently collaborate and support one another.

The Community Co-Director will receive a grant of $60,000 - $70,000 for the year (with some flexibility for exceptional candidates), as well as $10,000 for group-related expenses, and will be considered for renewed funding at the end of the year. The Community Co-Director is an independent grant recipient, not an employee of either EA NYC or CEA.
The grant is provided by the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA), through its Community Building Grants (CBG) program. The CBG program aims to increase the number of people dedicated to working on some of the world’s most important problems, by supporting organizers to grow and improve their effective altruism communities. The program provides funding for part-time and full-time community-building work and has funded organizers in locations such as Oxford, London, Berlin, and Yale.
