At the last meeting, we talked about the ethics of offsets and whether one can truly offsets the harms they cause.

At this meetups we are going practical - talking specifically about carbon offsets and different mechanisms.

Matthew Dahlhausen will present on the voluntary carbon offset market, particularly forest conservation through REDD+. Matthew is a research engineer at NREL. He closely follows climate policy developments including carbon markets outside of work.

Manny Rutinel, CEO of Climate Refarm, will present on leveraging carbon markets to pay food providers to switch to plant-based options. He is also an Associate Attorney for Earthjustice’s Sustainable Food and Farming Program. Manny received his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he took a year off to work on the policy team for Senator Hickenlooper’s senate campaign and as a Field Organizer for the Georgia runoff elections. Previously, Manny was an economist for the US Army Corps of Engineers, where he also served as a First Responder in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Manny holds an M.S. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University and both a B.S. in Microbiology and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Florida.
